Update Me Beautiful

Update Me Beautiful

It’s time to put the flip flops away and pull on boots and layers. Who doesn’t love a cold, crisp sunny morning? But you don’t have to reinvent the wheel to stay current and stylish. Sometimes all it needs, is a little tweak and a bit of an update. When you understand you body shape, know your colours and appreciate your own style personality, it’s very easily achieved.

Here’s my guide to looking stylish this autumn.

Layer It Up

Gone are the days when wearing a vest and cardi was classed as layering. These days it’s actually an art form, and never more so than during Autumn/Winter London Fashion Week. We saw double blazers (one worn, the other slung over the shoulders), ponchos, and shirt dresses worn as jackets.

Do you still have a poncho from last time around? Why not dig it out. Team it with a matching bobble hat for an up-to-date look. Did you purchase a long sleeved denim dress last season? Try wearing it open, over a pair of trousers and t-shirt.

Remember though, that extra clothes add bulk so stick to thin layers.

Ladies In Red

Red is going to be a huge trend this season (when is it not?). Sometimes a splash of a fashion colour is all that is needed to update your style.

Before hitting the shops, check your wardrobe because you may already have something suitable.

Take inspiration from this image from M&Co’s current collection.

Check It Out

The heritage and check trend isn’t going anywhere this season. Lucky you, if you bought into this last year.

If you don’t want to invest in an expensive item such as a jacket or coat, buy a checked scarf. Make sure that the colours are flattering and you will have a brand new look for a few pounds.

Perfect Pleats

Fashion designers are making it very easy to be sustainable this year, as pleats are featuring heavily again. So don’t part with yours just yet. Try wearing it differently this season; ankle boots with a pleated skirt or dress; mix with unexpected (but flattering) colours; style with an oversized sweater.

Pleats can add volume so make sure yours flatters your body shape.

The Finishing Touches

An inexpensive way of updating an old outfit is to add new accessories. Hair slides and embellished headbands are still very much in fashion. And let’s not forget the 80s scrunchie.

Dark teal nail polish sported by Selena Gomez is sure to be worn by many a chic woman. And we’ll be seeing lots of oversized colourful brooches.
